Everyone is invited to pitch in on two ambitious planting projects this winter at MA Center. Bring your friends, family, and colleagues along for the fun!
Lotus Orchard Planting
Plant fruit trees! Started at Amma’s request for more fruit trees at the Center, the GreenFriends orchards are models of sustainable agriculture, using permaculture and Soil Food Web techniques to farm without harm.
This season, GreenFriends will continue its orchard project by planting 200 fruit trees in the Lotus Orchard. This is GreenFriends’ newest fruit orchard, perched above a secluded lotus pond at the east end of the MA Center property.

Native Tree Project
Plant native trees! This year marks the kick-off of a new multi-year reforestation project at MA Center, with the ultimate goal of planting 50,000 trees.
We are starting by planting acorns gathered right here at the Center. Volunteers have already collected and sprouted acorns from the Center’s majestic oak trees. The next step is to plant them in the gullies beside the creeks. Further steps include planting other small indigenous saplings around the property.

Our friends the trees help combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and other pollutant gases and returning oxygen to the air. Trees give us wholesome food, provide habitats for birds and animals, and reduce runoff, which prevents erosion and water pollution. Planting trees is a beautiful way to give back to our community and the Earth.
